Ylva Holländer’s exhibition consists of ceramic works. She combines her ceramics with porcelain objects purchased from flea markets. Her works bring forth absurd and unexpected encounters that lead to multi-layered association games. Her works deal with both the visible and the invisible – what is hidden under the grass or what is hidden inside a person.
She thinks in images and her works serve as a basis for philosophical reflection. The works are coloured by humour and playfulness, but in the background there are also more serious fundamental questions about existence. In this world full of mushrooms, man is a mammal on a par with the rest of nature.
Holländer has her roots in painting and colour plays an important role. In her ceramic works she combines plasticity and colour. She is interested in Western art history and natural history illustrations from the 17th and 18th centuries. Still life paintings from that period told stories through plants, animals and various objects. They often reflected the natural cycle of life and death or decay and renewal. These themes are present in Holländer’s most recent works.
