Jarmo Koponen: PUUPIIRROKSIA 6.2.–2.3.2025

Jarmo Koponen’s large-scale woodcuts are born out of a search for challenges and surprises. The portraits are initially based on the faces of people close to Koponen, but as the works progress, the focus shifts toward creating as diverse a printed surface as possible. The aim is not to control the process, but to allow the technique and materials to leave their own marks on the final piece. What fascinates Koponen in printmaking is precisely the element of surprise.

Jarmo Koponen is a Finnish-American visual artist originally from Korpilahti. After living abroad for 30 years, he now lives and works in Jyväskylä, Finland. He has held exhibitions both in the USA and in Finland. His primary mediums are currently woodcut printmaking, mixed media, and photography.
