ALEKSANTERI JÄRVENPÄÄ 28.5.-22.6.2025

Aleksanteri Järvenpää, born in 1948, is a painter and graphic artist from Turku who has been creating art for several decades. His work spans printmaking, oil and pastel painting, as well as various graphic techniques. His art is deeply personal and introspective, focusing on the realms of emotion and the mind.

In recent years, Järvenpää has concentrated on working with offset plates, which also form the basis of this exhibition. He uses various mixed techniques to create the surface of the plates. The works are built layer by layer: through etching, painting with oil and acrylics, and experimenting with different material combinations. This results in a visually rich and multidimensional surface that invites the viewer to explore the piece from multiple perspectives.

Järvenpää is known for his surreal atmospheres, but his style has never followed prevailing trends. He has sought out secret paths to his own mode of expression, and over the years his line has developed a unique character, resistant to shifting styles. He does not aim to depict reality as it is, but rather creates unique spaces and images that blend subconscious movements with imaginative freedom. His works may begin with a recognizable form, but quickly evolve into complex and imaginative compositions, with a clear narrative layer and easily accessible symbolism. The pieces highlight Järvenpää’s ability to merge precise technical skill with visual imagination.

Many of Järvenpää’s works are rooted in a critical reflection on the human imprint on nature and nature’s imprint on the human. The pieces invite viewers to search for something familiar and personal – an opportunity to reflect on their own experiences, perceptions, and relationship with the surrounding world.
