Sini-Meri Hedberg’s exhibition consists of landscape paintings that focus on peaks reaching for the sky.
In her recent landscape paintings, Hedberg has portrayed mountains, especially gorges and chasms. In the exhibition at Galleria Joella, we ascend upward and gaze toward the summits.
The paintings explore peaks as moments when a goal or destination has been reached. The works pose questions: What can be seen and how does it feel at the top? Is there happiness, emptiness, or a heavy cloud hovering above us? What remains once the summit is reached? Can one see far from there? Or does the downhill make one dizzy?
In June, Hedberg worked in the hot summer of Italy at the Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation’s artist house in Grassina. The exhibition includes a few paintings influenced by her time in Tuscany.
The preparation of the exhibition has been supported by the Arts Council of Southwest Finland, and the residency trip by the Turku Art Association — heartfelt thanks!
