For us, the sea as an element has become an inner space. Without the presence of water nearby, we experience a feeling that something essential is missing. Over time, our relationship with nature has become increasingly sensitive, and alongside its beauty, we have also become more aware of its vulnerability. Through our work, we want to take a stand for the preservation of biodiversity.<\/p>\n
In our artistic practice, we have explored different manifestations of nature throughout almost our entire artistic careers, spanning more than 30 years. In his works, Juha focuses on encounters within the landscape. As the landscape changes, the camera becomes an immediate recorder of fleeting moments. Alongside the landscape, Raija\u2019s gaze is drawn to the small details and subtle forms found in nature.<\/p>\n
We work with photogravure, a printmaking technique. We use the same technique, but approach it in two different ways. In his works, Juha uses photography, which he processes and prints onto film. Raija draws and paints the image material to be exposed onto different types of film. The images are exposed onto a printing plate and developed into plates for printing.<\/p>\n
The soft mark of photogravure beautifully renders a range of tones, from light to velvety dark. Although photogravure is a relatively modern technique, the prints are made by hand using traditional intaglio printmaking methods.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
