Details that remain in obscurity, the shadows of darkness, moments of transition, and the fragility of recollections. I reflect on the problem of remembering: how things take shape in the mind, divide and settle into compartments of memory. A memory is always a memory of remembering \u2013 a slightly altered version of the original.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"516\" data-end=\"807\">I do not sketch my works; instead, I work intuitively. I begin with a title and collect words \u2013 separate, individual ones \u2013 from conversations, music, and books. Something in the chosen words draws me in and continues to resonate. I write them down and return to them when I begin working.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"809\" data-end=\"1116\">The works emerge through a multilayered process. Beneath the surface, several stages may accumulate, even fully resolved pieces over which I nevertheless continue to paint. I cover, blur, excavate, destroy, and begin again.
