\"\"LINJANVETO<\/em> \u2013 EXHIBITION OF CONTEMPORARY DRAWING IN TURKU, 5.\u201327.7.2025<\/b><\/h3>\n

Organized by Turku Printmakers Association, <\/span>Linjanveto<\/span><\/i> is a nationwide exhibition showcasing contemporary drawing in Finland. The exhibition will be on view at the Amiraalistonkatu warehouse from 5th to 27th of July 2025. It highlights current approaches to drawing and brings together artists from across the country. The works enter into a compelling dialogue with the rough, industrial atmosphere of the former tram depot.<\/span><\/p>\n

The national open call for drawings received an exceptional number of submissions. From over 200 applications, works by 33 artists were selected. All chosen artists demonstrate a strong, distinctive voice in their personal drawing practice. Alongside local and long-established visual artists, the exhibition features many promising emerging artists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Turku Printmakers Association actively promotes the visibility and appreciation of drawing as an independent form of contemporary art in Finland. According to the association, drawing still lacks the recognition it deserves as a stand-alone technique. <\/span>Linjanveto<\/span><\/i> offers a powerful and fresh perspective on the current state of drawing in Finland, making a clear statement in its support.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition stretches the viewer\u2019s perception of what drawing can be. In addition to traditional techniques and materials, the works incorporate sculptural, conceptual, and experimental elements. The themes are approached with playfulness, sensitivity, and a spirit of exploration.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the exhibition, free drawing workshops open to the public will be held on Wednesdays from 17:00 to 19:00. No advance registration is required; participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that the exhibition space closes to the public at 17:00 for the duration of each workshop. 9th of July \u00b7 \u00a0Croquis Drawing Workshop \u00b7 Veronika Ringbom<\/h6>\n

Croquis drawing is one of the most traditional methods for practicing observational drawing. In this workshop, participants sketch a live model in quick, timed poses lasting only a few minutes, focusing on capturing the essential characteristics of the figure in their own style. The method helps to develop spatial perception and hand-eye coordination. Participants are free to approach the drawing either with realistic style or with a more impressionistic way.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop also includes a brief introduction to the idea and purpose behind croquis as a drawing technique.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop is led by experienced croquis artist and printmaker Veronika Ringbom. Duration is 2 hours. Maximum of 20 participants. Please arrive by 16:45. All materials are provided, but you\u2019re welcome to bring your own sketchbook and drawing tools.<\/span><\/p>\n

16th of July \u00b7 Drawing with Mindful Awareness \u00b7 Matleena Korhonen<\/h6>\n

This workshop consists of several short exercises that use drawing as a tool for mindfulness-based meditation. Mindfulness means conscious, nonjudgmental presence, which involves observing sensations, bodily feelings, emotions, or thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants will draw while focusing on different senses (e.g., how the pencil feels in the hand, how movement feels in the body, or what sound the pencil makes on paper) and to the rhythm of music. Exercises also include observing the environment and the artworks in the exhibition, as well as visualizing emotional states.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mindful drawing and pausing in the moment can support everyday well-being. While relaxation is not the goal, it is often a welcomed side effect.<\/span><\/p>\n

Led by visual artist Matleena Korhonen. Duration is 2 hours. Suitable for all ages. All materials are provided. Maximum of 15 participants.<\/span><\/p>\n

23th of July \u00b7 Free the Line! \u00b7 Jone Mutka<\/h6>\n

This energetic and playful workshop invites participants to draw from observation, using various objects and each other as models. The focus is on spontaneity, with exercises that incorporate unconventional tools and experimental approaches. Participants will draw using continuous lines, without looking at the paper or with their non-dominant hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal is to let go of the pressure to draw perfectly or realistically and instead rediscover the joy of drawing freely and intuitively.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop is led by printmaker Jone Mutka. Duration is 2 hours. Suitable for all ages. All materials are provided. Maximum of 15 participants.<\/span><\/p>\n
